Currently there are over 8.93 million mobile apps available just between Google, Apple, Amazon & Microsoft. As an “old” guy I’m amazed at how many social media apps are out there and how much people share about themselves, although I do love following my grandkids on Instagram!
In the water damage restoration industry, there are many mobile apps, as well, like Mitigate, Encircle, Promatic Work Tracker, Dri-Plan, MagicPlan, The Flood Team, GoCanvas, Water Mold Fire Restoration, SyCorp Calculator, DriEaz Calculator, Phoenix Calculator, etc. are just some of the mobile apps we see in this industry.
The key is to get good at using mobile apps to gather and transfer data in a timely manner, especially if you work with insurance carriers and Third-Party Administrators (TPAs). Sometimes a specific mobile app is mandated by the insurance carrier to receive water damage claims from them, so you may not have control on what apps you would rather use. Regardless, embrace technology and get good at it.
Mobile apps do make saving and transferring date much quicker and they just keep getting better each year. Having said that, mobile apps, which can include validation of airmovers & dehumidifiers, etc. are only as good as the information entered, so mobile apps are not a substitute for critical thinking.

It comes down to finding the easiest most accurate way to record data from a drying project and get to all materially interested parties as quickly as possible. This data can be your best protection by recording your drying plan and progress with floor diagrams, records of readings, photos that can be easily labelled, etc. Also, the app can be built to force a specific behavior to make sure the technician doesn't forget anything important.
So, in summary, get good at using mobile apps to collect, store, and transfer information, but also use that information to help you critically think about how best to dry materials and record your success. Mobile apps are just a tool, and it is up to you to use that information to think and document your way to being a successful restoration professional!
